August Rewind
Summer days, drifting away
Hello!
Happy Labor Day to my American readers, and happy first day of school to me here in Budapest. The summer is coming to a close. I typically welcome the return of routine, but honestly, I am a bit sad about losing the freedom of summer.
I mostly stayed around Budapest this month. It was great to have unhurried time, bike rides, days of sleeping in, and lots of time to read for pleasure. I also got to spend a few days at the Sziget Festival, one of the city’s biggest cultural events. I saw Chappel Roan, Post Malone, Kingfishr, and The Wellerman, plus a lot of other smaller acts.
This fall, I am most excited about seeing my students again. In Hungary, you get to stay with your class as they move up through the years, so last year I taught fifth grade, and this year, I’ll teach sixth. I can’t wait to see who grew three inches over the summer, who talked themselves into getting bangs, which kid turned emo, etc. I also missed my co-workers and am happy to be reunited.
But it wasn’t all *just* fun and games this summer; I got some writing done too! I submitted a few reviews for Third Coast Review. Please check them out here:
I also saw quite a few new movies. I feel like the quality of new releases is picking up (am I crazy?). Let me know what you think if you saw any of these:
Materialists (4/5)
Weapons (4/5)
A Little Prayer (2.5/5)
I’m hoping to create a rhythm this fall that gives me time to work, socialize, exercise, and be creative. It seems like it’s a never-ending battle to accomplish everything that I want to get done. Thanks for always supporting me and bearing with me as I go. Have a great September!
xo, Tory
